Validation of the PHQ-9 in adults with dissociative seizures

The PHQ-9 is a self-administered depression screening instrument. Little known about its utility and accuracy in detecting adults with dissociative seizures (DS). Using the Mini – International Neuropsychiatric Interview as reference, we evaluated diagnostic of DS, examined convergent discriminant validity uniformity. Our sample comprised 368 people DS who completed pre-randomisation assessment CODES trial. uniformity was determined using factor analysis for categorical data. Optimal cut-offs were area under curve (AUC), Youden Index, odds ratio (DOR). Convergent assessed against measures. Internal consistency high (α = 0.87). While suggested that cut-off ≥10 had best predictive performance (DOR 14.7), specificity at this cut off only 0.49. AUC (0.74) Index (0.48) ≥ 13 would yield an optimal sensitivity (0.81) (0.67) balance. However, score ≥20 be required to match resulting from ≥13 other medical conditions. We found good one main PHQ-9. In terms internal structure, our findings consistent previous validation studies but indicated higher identify patients similar achieved different clinical non-clinical populations.
